KDS DAR School was opened in 1924 by the Alabama Society DAR in an effort to provide an exceptional education steeped in patriotic values for the children of a rural area of the state. The Alabama Daughters were joined in their efforts by the National Society in 1928 with the passing of a resolution urging societies at large to cooperate with the state society of Alabama in its efforts to enlarge the school and increase its usefulness.

Now, nearly 100 years later, KDS has grown and flourished in its mission to provide opportunities for educational and personal growth for students, while emphasizing patriotism, responsible citizenship, and the historical legacy of the school.

This milestone celebration is being planned under the direction of the Executive Committee of the KDS Board of Trustees and a special 100th Anniversary Committee. Many activities and events are being planned and will be rolled out during the next two years, culminating in the school's 100th birthday on February 26, 2024, and the 100th Dedication Day in October 2024.
