Rise and Shine Patriots is produced and recorded daily by a group of 8th grade students under the direction of KDS Middle School Technology Instructional Aide Jason Hodges. Each day, these students are responsible for gathering information for their spots, formatting their scripts, recording, and editing video. Students from every grade produce spots for special segments such as Constitution Week, Red Ribbon Week, and World Kindness Week.

This new format for the morning announcements has been well received by both students and faculty. Not only does the program provide a new and exciting way for students to start their school day, but it also serves as an important learning tool for those producing it. They learn important life skills such as time management, organization, team work, and public speaking. They are also learning technical skills using the latest editing software.
