To encourage participation during the Museum Weekend, admission to all participating museums is free and will include special events, activities, refreshments, and prizes. Visitors and locals alike are encouraged to visit all seven museums, pick up a Museums Passport, and have it validated at each location. Everyone visiting all seven museums during the two-day period and turning in a completed Passport at the final stop will be entered into a grand prize drawing of a trip for two to Washington, DC, to visit the Smithsonian Museums.  The prize, sponsored by Marshall County Tourism and Sports, includes airfare, hotel accommodations and expense money, is valued at approximately $1,300.

The newly formed Marshall County Museum Alliance, made up of seven museums in the county, is hosting a Museum Weekend on September 17 and 18, in conjunction with Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day, a nationwide event that encourages curiosity and learning at museums.
