Need for Blessings Bags is Greater This Year

The KDS DAR School Blessings Bags program provides food sacks for schoolchildren who have limited access to food on the weekends. For the 2022-2023 school year, more than 320 KDS Elementary and Middle School students have requested to receive the weekly packs. Last year, that number was 250.

“This is the most students we’ve had participate in Blessings Bags since the program began in 2017,” said KDS Executive Director Heather Green.  “A lot of families are feeling the weight of this economy, and this program is one way we can help alleviate some of that stress.”

Students who participate in the Blessings Bags program receive a food pack with six items (two breakfasts, two snacks, and two entrées) each Friday.  The cost to administer the program is $100 per student per school year.
