At Kate Duncan Smith DAR School, we were thrilled to celebrate our Class of 2023 during Awards Day and Graduation on Thursday, May 18th. It was such a special time to applaud the accomplishments of the 90 outstanding young men and women who graduated.
Awards Day
Senior Awards Day is a time to recognize graduating seniors for their achievements and to award them scholarships which will enable them to pursue their future goals. At the 2023 Senior Awards Day, approximately $581,084 in scholarships were presented to 54 deserving KDS graduates. The scholarship totals with their sources are as follows:
$440,484 – Scholarships from Colleges and Universities
$128,000 – Scholarships sponsored by the DAR
$12,600 – Scholarships sponsored by community and foundations
Fifty-two special awards were given as well, totaling more than $25,625. These awards recognize the students for not only their academic achievements, but also their service, their attitudes and their commitment to excellence.
Graduation
Graduation is culmination of thirteen years of work and serves as the starting point for the next phase of these students’ young lives. This year, 90 young men and women graduated from KDS DAR School.
Visiting DAR members offered greetings and words of wisdom to the graduates, their attendance adding much to the festivities as the Class of 2023 gathered to receive their diplomas.
Student speakers Eli Cryer, Callie Ledbetter, Caitlyn O’Neal and Ella Satterfield reflected on their time at KDS and shared special memories and inspirational thoughts with their classmates and families and friends in attendance.
