DAR Cross Country Season Off to a Great Start

DAR High School Cross Country team is off to a fast start for the 2024 season. The season started August 24th with the team travelling to Bob Jones High School, led by juniors Bailey Kendrick and Joy McBride. Kendrick won the boys overall while Joy led the girls team to a 4th place finish with her individual top 5 placement. Both McBride and Kendrick set DAR High School record times with their performances. Sixteen of the 18 runners had personal best performances at the Bob Jones race. The following week the team travelled to Scottsboro as a quick tune-up race, where the Patriots saw 6 new personal best performances.

The following week had the team travelling to the Oakville Indian Mounds for the Chickasaw Invitational on September 7th. The Chickasaw Invitational is one of the largest races in the southeast, with 140 teams represented and over 2800 runners. Again, the team was led by Kendrick and McBride. Joy McBride led the girls team with a time of 20:49.76 for the 5k, placing 7th individually for the Small Schools Division. Her time propelled the girls team to a 9th place finish.

Bailey Kendrick led the boys team with a time of 15:39.80 for the 5k race. Kendrick's performance broke his own school record. He also broke the Marshall County All-Time Boys 5k record. He is #2 all-time in the Alabama 4A state rankings. He is also the #1 ranked boy in 4A, #1 ranked junior in all of Alabama, and #3 ranked boy in Alabama this year.

The girls team is currently #8 in the Alabama 4A state rankings. Joy McBride is ranked 5th in the state at this time.

Both teams were also very proud of their local results in the Marshall County Cross Country meet with both Bailey and Joy bringing home first place honors and the DAR girls’ team coming in first place.

The Patriots will look to improve throughout the remaining regular season schedule and finish the season in November with some strong finishes at the State Championship.
