Spring has sprung and the KDS Middle School Agri-Science students kicked off the spring planting season recently with a hands-on activity. They planted some of the outdoor raised garden beds with tomatoes and a companion planting of basil and marigolds. Basil is a vibrant, aromatic herb that repels insects, specifically flies and hornworms, and is believed to improve yield. Marigolds can also help to keep numerous pests away. The tomatoes and basil will be available for use in the KDS cafeteria and high school culinary classes.
