Varsity Basketball Ends Another Great Season

The KDS DAR Varsity Boys Basketball team won its second consecutive area championship in dominating fashion with a 77-59 victory over the North Jackson Chiefs on Friday, February 7.

The Patriots were led by Landen Harbin with 31 points, followed by T.J. Leonard with 14 and Koltyn Harbin with 13.

Landen Harbin, Koltyn Harbin, and T.J. Leonard were joined by Howie Boxley on the All Area Team for their performances in the regular season area games.

The win set up a rematch of last year’s epic contest with Good Hope. KDS won that game 64-62 to earn a trip to the regional tournament. But on Tuesday, February 11, the Patriots lost to the Raiders 84-76 in front of their home crowd.

The DAR varsity girls had to settle for runner-up, coming up short in their comeback bid by falling to the North Jackson Chiefs 61-51 in the Class 4A Area 14 basketball tournament held at North Jackson.

Brianna Bolt scored 20 points, and Kassidy Allen added 18 to lead DAR.

Brianna Bolt, Tori Nickell, and Ivy Carmack were named to the All Area team based on their play in four regular season area games.

The Lady Patriots traveled to face Oneonta in a Northeast Sub-Regional game Monday, February 10, with a trip to regionals on the line. Sadly, the team came up short, falling to Oneonta 66-50.
